Best Warm-up Drills Before a Round: Get Ready for Fun Disc Golf!
Warming up before a round of disc golf is one of the easiest ways to improve your performance, prevent injuries, and have more fun on the course. Whether you’re brand new to disc golf or just want to feel your best, these simple warm-up routines will help you get ready to play your best round yet!
Why Warm Up Before Disc Golf?
- Prepares your muscles and joints for throwing
- Improves flexibility, balance, and coordination
- Reduces risk of injury, especially for beginners
- Helps you focus and enjoy the game
Easy Disc Golf Warm-up Drills for All Players
1. Gentle Jog or Brisk Walk
Start with a 3–5 minute light jog or brisk walk. This gets your blood flowing and helps wake up your legs and arms. Walking the first hole is a great way to loosen up, especially if you’re carrying a disc golf bag from our Divergent Discs collection.
2. Arm Circles & Shoulder Rolls
- Stand tall and extend your arms to the sides.
- Make slow, controlled circles—10 forward, 10 backward.
- Roll your shoulders gently to release any tension.
Shoulder mobility is key for accurate throws with discs like the Kraken Fairway Driver or Basilisk Distance Driver.
3. Trunk Twists for Core Activation
- Stand with feet shoulder-width apart.
- Hold your arms out and gently twist your torso side to side.
- Repeat 10–15 times to warm up your core and lower back.
A strong core helps you control midrange discs like the Leviathan and Kapre.
4. Dynamic Leg Swings
- Hold onto a basket or tree for support.
- Swing each leg forward and back, then side to side (10–15 swings each way).
This drill loosens up your hips and legs for smoother footwork, especially when throwing approach discs like the Alpas or Golem.
5. Wrist & Forearm Stretches
- Gently flex and extend your wrists.
- Pull each finger back for a few seconds to stretch your forearms.
These areas work hard with every putt and drive. Try it before using our Narwhal Putter or any putter.
6. Practice Throws (No Discs Needed)
- Mimic your throwing motion a few times without a disc.
- Focus on smooth, relaxed movement—not power.
This helps your body remember good form before you start playing. If you’re new, check out our beginner disc golf sets for everything you need to get started.
Bonus: Make It Social!
Warm-ups are more fun with friends or family. Invite your group to join in, or turn your routine into a quick game—like who can do the silliest arm circles!
